Lean Construction

Messer’s innovative use of Lean Construction methods saves our clients time and money. It also gives them the comfort of knowing a promise from Messer is a pledge that will be kept.

Lean Construction is based on Toyota Motor Manufacturing’s pioneering Lean Management techniques. Toyota found that focusing on improving the reliability and predictability of its production process – instead of focusing solely on how to speed things up – naturally led to streamlined processes, reducing wasted time, effort, expense and materials.

Lean Construction has made such a positive impact for our clients, it’s now used company-wide on every project and has become ingrained in our corporate culture across all functions. It’s been so successful, we can guarantee clients their projects will be finished on time. This enables us to offer our WorkSmart promise, part of ValuePath, Messer’s Operational Differentiators.

Here's a glimpse of the "power of Lean":

Project: DHL ILN Hub Expansion Sort Building “F”

Lean Construction Success: Using Lean Construction techniques, Messer was able to finish this 1.2 million square-foot building in 11 months, ahead of schedule, complete an additional $16 million worth of work with no time extension, and return $1.2 million in savings to the owner. This project won the regional Design-Build Institute of America’s award for excellence as well its project of the year.

Here’s what our client said:
“I am writing to thank you, your staff and company as a whole as we couldn’t be more pleased with your team’s recent success working on DHL’s Building F project at our Wilmington airport facility.

With a project of this complexity, DHL knew from the onset that our schedule would be a challenge. As it happens, Messer’s management processes contributed to Building F being completed early. This contributed to DHL accelerating moving our operations from the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Airport to Wilmington one month ahead of our original schedule.

Additionally, it goes without saying that DHL Senior management was pleased to hear that the project was finished more than $1M below the original GMP.

Personally and professionally, it was most pleasing working with your entire team...

We look forward to the opportunity of working with the staff of Messer on future projects and would wholeheartedly recommend your company to other owners with complex building needs. Thank you for your team’s hard work and dedication.

Together, we delivered!”
