Charles R. Patton

Charles Patton is a retired Executive Vice President of American Electric Power (AEP). During his 27 year career with AEP, he served in numerous executive roles. As EVP of External Affairs, he led regulatory affairs, customer service, federal public policy, corporate communications and AEP’s sustainability/ESG efforts. He served as president and chief operating officer of two AEP subsidiaries: Appalachian Power, serving approximately one million customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee; and AEP Texas, serving over one million customers in South and West Texas. Other roles at AEP have included Executive Vice President of AEP Utilities West, Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Public Policy and Chief Human Resource Officer.

In addition to his service at Messer, Charles serves on the board of Sterling Infrastructure, headquartered in Houston, Texas and a former board member of the Fifth District Federal Reserve Bank located in Richmond, Virginia.

Throughout his career Charles has and chaired numerous professional and civic organizations nationally and in the communities in which he has lived. He is currently on the executive committee of the YMCA of Central Ohio.

Charles is a graduate of Bowdoin College, located in Brunswick, Maine, and holds a graduate degree from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Policy.
