Messer won two ABC Carolinas Excellence in Construction awards: an Eagle award for the American Airlines Admiral Club (general contracting, renovations, $2 million-$5 million) and a Merit award for the Cabarrus County parking deck (general contracting, commercial, $10 million-$25 million).
For the American Airlines project at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Messer completed a 4,700-square-foot renovation of the existing Admirals Club to incorporate high-end finishes and modern amenities. With an emphasis on quality control, work was executed within the confines of the active airport terminal in just seven months. The project achieved 39% M/WSBE participation, exceeding the 22% requirement.
For the 614-space Cabarrus County parking deck project, Messer completed a five-story cast-in-place structure on a site tightly surrounded by city streets and an access drive—putting in place more than 100,000 craft hours. The exterior was comprised of four different facade materials, including aluminum storefront, masonry, glass and EIFS. Utilizing Single Piece Flow construction saved the county construction time, as well as equipment and labor costs.
