Description

The City of Knoxville wanted to create a single location to house the department headquarters of its local safety divisions: Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Fire Department, City Pension office and a small courthouse. This 200,000 sf project included significant demolition of the existing St. Mary's Hospital and renovation of three campus buildings. The facility consists of a firearm shooting range, forensics departments, courthouse, 911 auxiliary call center and forensic garage.

Features

  • It was imperative for Messer to develop a detailed demolition plan that ensured the safety of all in and around the project and protected adjacent campus buildings that were not selected for demolition.
  • Seven buildings were demolished, equaling roughly 800,000 sf of demolition.
