- The project was bound on three sides by occupied buildings.
- The S + W Grand Building is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. An important aspect of this project was maintaining the building’s architectural integrity. Plaster crown molding, ornate handrails, terrazzo flooring and intricate wood paneling original to the building were protected/restored to meet the local historical requirements.
- With the students returning to the school in the fall, Messer had a short period of time to complete this renovation. Demolition took two weeks and the new construction on the building lasted six weeks.
- The specialized cosmetology equipment within the Aveda Institute required new mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment be installed in the historic building with care since most of the finishes were irreplaceable.
