Details

  • Assignment: Construction Manager/Design-build
  • Architect: Burgess & Niple

Description

This 240,000 sf complex is compromised of four buildings and 300 units with public areas and laundry rooms. Each suite contains two bedrooms, a kitchen dinette and bathroom. Sitework included utilities, sidewalks, parking and landscaping.

Features

  • In the period that the team was scheduled to pour a slab on grade, the ground was frozen 28" deep in  some places. With these extreme conditions, concrete blankets would not keep the subgrade from freezing. Our team rented a large party tent and installed propane heaters to thaw the subgrade. The team was able to pour and properly cure the slab while outside temperatures remained below freezing.
  • The U.S. Department of Defense force protection measures required blast resistant windows and doors. For sustainability purposes, the complex is heated and cooled with a geothermal system that includes vertical stack heat pumps. This project received the AGC Build Kentucky Award.
