Fort Knox, KY
Features
- In the period that the team was scheduled to pour a slab on grade, the ground was frozen 28" deep in some places. With these extreme conditions, concrete blankets would not keep the subgrade from freezing. Our team rented a large party tent and installed propane heaters to thaw the subgrade. The team was able to pour and properly cure the slab while outside temperatures remained below freezing.
- The U.S. Department of Defense force protection measures required blast resistant windows and doors. For sustainability purposes, the complex is heated and cooled with a geothermal system that includes vertical stack heat pumps. This project received the AGC Build Kentucky Award.
