Description

The Riley Hospital for Children Maternity and Newborn Health provides families across the state access to world-class maternity and newborn preventive care. The project included a 190,000 sf renovation to the existing facility, consolidating all NICU and OB/GYN services and staff to one central downtown location with clinical space, NICU, OB/GYN clinic, sterile processing, C-section operation rooms, labor and delivery, fetal surgery and postpartum units. It also included renovations to existing kitchen/food services, atrium and site entry and upgrades to existing MEP system.

Features

  • The project team coordinated extensively with hospital officials to ensure the safety of all visitors, patients and staff, including 330 planned shutdowns.
  • Throughout all phases of the project, the hospital remained fully-operational with patient occupancy above, below and adjacent to the project.
  • Flow scheduling reduced increments of work by coupling activities together and improved performance.
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) enabled the team to virtually model the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems prior to construction which increased the reliability of the construction schedule.
  • The team achieved 31% Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation, surpassing the 25% goal.
  • The Ronald McDonald House allows respite for families to be alongside loved ones.
